Sermon Prep in the Shower

You know what….

I have said this before…

But my sermon prep happens literally…

EVERYWHERE…

Sometimes I am practicing the sermon while driving to work…

Yep…If you drive by me, you will see me in there preaching….

No one really thinks about it, I assume, because everyone is talking on phones with Bluetooth devices anyway…

So you know, I don’t look out of the ordinary…

But…I go through my sermons while driving.

Today, I was in the shower…

Yep…in the shower…

And I started preaching a sermon I was working on…

And God gave me something.

Something that fit in perfectly…

May be an illustration…

May be a conlcusion….

May be something else…

But God gives me something…and sometimes it is so good that I have to go grab some paper right then to write it down.

ok..so why am I telling you this?

Becuase..like I said yesterday….you need to put some “TIME” in your preparation…

I know…I know….sometimes you don’t have time….sometimes you have to go….and that’s true….I been there….surprises happen….assignments out of nowhere that you can’t turn own happen…

BUT..as a general practice….

You need to let the Spirit work with TIME in your sermon prep…

Just like when you baking a cake….it takes the time it takes…

If you use some scheme…it often don’t work….cuase it takes some time…

Time plus the Spirit will take your good sermon..and turn it into something great…

Time plus the Spirit will take your great sermon…and turn it into something life changing…

EVERYTIME I go ghtouth a sermon….EVERYTIME I practice a sermon…soemthing new and different and fresh comes…

This is why practice is so important…It opens the door for the Spirit to giv you something

Big

Powerful

Important…

And all IN THE CONTEXT OF YOUR SERMON…

So…I’m gonna tel you to do something….I know you have to preach….and that’s cool….do what you do this week…but at the same time…take another sermon….an older sermon. A sermon you preached last year…

Now…

Start working with that sermon…

start preaching that sermon again….

start practicing that sermon again…

And guess what….

God is gonna turn that old good sermon…into a ready made GREAT sermon needed today…

And if not…go on and try something else….

Maranatha,

Brother Sherman
