Three Blessings of Flunkersville

It has happened to all of us.

We get into the pulpit with a little more confidence than we aught to have and begin to preach.

We stand up like we always do and we begin to preach. However, the people don’t respond. Nobody appears to be hearing a thing we have prepared.

In non-technical terms we layed an egg or as some say, we went to flunkersville.

Most of us have been there. It is not a good feeling, however today I want to talk to you about the benefits and blessings of flunkersville.

Too Busy Not To Pray

I’m continuing my study of prayer as a Christian…

And as a minister…

I began the study looking at the Book, Praying the Bible…

And now I continue looking at a popular book by Bill Hybels titled, “Too Busy Not to Pray.”

Before I begin this interaction with the book, I do feel a call to begin doing two things…

1) write out my prayers at least sometimes…
2) begin a spiritual journal.

There is a power and depth of spirituality in our preaching and our ministry..and our depth of Christian experience that can only come from Prayer…

I continue this study, not just reading, but implementing…

Preaching Blessing At the Wrong Time

United in sorrowBlessings are great. We all want to be blessed. But, Proverbs 27:14 reminds us that it is not always the right time for even a blessing. In our text the sleeping may not want to be shaken out of a restful sleep to hear your loud pronouncements of blessing. Such blessings can easily be identified as a curse.

When it time for sleeping, let the one sleep. Sleeping has benefits and is a basic need for the human body. However, someone might feel the need to wake up the sleeper to give her a blessing.
