Preaching From the Overflow

Preach from the overflow.

My homiletics instructor told us. Preach from the overflow.

And I encourage you to take this to heart…

Always go for depth. Whether it be in your exegesis…

Whether it be in your sermon construction…

Whether it be in your illustrations…

Always “preach from the overflow…”

What am I talking about?

I mean you never preach everything you have…

When you exegete a text…you ain’t preaching every fact you found…

Everything that is true ain’t supposed to fit in THIS sermon at THIS time.

Yep you need to preach from the overflow of your presentation…

You know sermons need prayer power. You need to be prayed up…

But not just the minimal amount of prayer…pray all the way through the process…

In you planning, preparation, and presentation…bathe every step in prayer…

Preach from the overflow of your spirituality…

Be over prepared…

Be “overprayed”…

Yeah…I know it ain’t a word, but you know what I’m talking bout…

And THEN…

Watch God use you to do something powerful…

This preparation is at the base of my sermon prep method…check it out http://www.superchargeyoursermons.net.

Maranatha,

Brother Sherman
