Tactics Don’t Replace Power

Exegesis, you better do it. But it don’t replace power…

Solid Sermon Construction. Check. We need that, but it don’t replace power…

Great Presentation. That’s what a lot of people remember. But no. It don’t replace power…

The folks may shout, but if there ain’t no power. Who cares.

What am I talking about?

I’m talking bout the Holy Ghost…

Tactics  are important, but they come after power. The Holy Ghost gives us a message AS we prepare. You learn the tactics to figure out how to clean up the loose ends…

You don’t go to seminary to learn how to minister…you go to seminary to learn how to become a better minister. You go to learn how to direct that Spirit power better.

You don’t read books on sermon preparation to learn how to get something to say…you go to sermon preparation books to help you to learn how to say what God gave you better…

Luke used historical sources to put together his book…Not to get a message, but to learn how to put his message together better…

Get that power…

Where do you get the power?

In the prayer room. The Spirit will show up.

Where do you get that power?

When you struggling to understand what God is trying to say with that hard text. Don’t ignore the hard texts or the hard questions. God will show up there!

Where do you get that power?

When you in the sick room being present when folks go through hell on earth. It’s hard to understand, but God often shows Godsself at that time when all hell is breaking loose.

THEN after you got the power, you are ready to begin…

Work on that sermon and watch that Power flow…

I hope you got some power for this weekend…

Till Tommorrow…Yall betta preach…
